Virginia Brewery Trail
Just 30 minutes from Avon Hill is one of our favorite places to visit in the area. The Virginia Brewery Trail is home to dozens of Breweries, Wineries, and Distilleries located in Nelson County, VA. These awesome spots all share a common theme of good drinks, stunning views, and great times! Some of our favorite spots to hit on this trail include: -Devils Backbone Brewery (200 Crandall Run, Roseland, VA 22967) -Bold Rock Cidery (1020 Rockfish Valley Hwy, Nellysford, VA 22958) -Silverback Distillery (9374 Rockfish Valley Hwy, Afton, VA 22920) -Blue Toad Cidery (462 Winery Ln, Roseland, VA 22967) -Hill Top Winery (2800 Berry Hill Rd, Nellysford, VA 22958)
Hiking Trails along Shenandoah National Park
There are TONS of amazing places to hike and capture incredible views of the Shenandoah Valley, Blue Ridge Mountains, and Shenandoah National Park. You can find dozens of well maintained hiking trails on the National Parks Website (https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/day-hikes.htm). Our personal favorite (Seen in the photo above) is hiking up Humpback Mountain right outside Nellysford, VA. This short but challenging hike is only a 2 mile long loop trail, however holds about a 800 foot elevation gain in this short distance! This hike is moderate to high intensity however offers the most rewarding and breathtaking 360 views of the Virginia Terrain. (Link to info on the hike: https://www.nelsoncounty.com/humpback-rock/)
Downtown Mall (Charlottesville)
Downtown Charlottesville is home to shops, restaurants, breweries, and more! You could easily spend a full weekend visiting this bustling downtown as it has plenty to offer for everyone! Some of our favorite spots downtown here include: -Jack Browns Burgers and Beer (JMU Favorite!!) -Three KNotch'd Craft Brewery -Devils Backbone Brewery -North American Sake Brewery (Same building as DB!) -Tavola Restaurant (For Italian Fanatics) -Champion Brewing Co.
James River
For any angling enthusiasts out there, the location of the wedding is right on the James River, one of Virginia’s top rivers for Small Mouth Bass. If you are looking to wet a line, or get out on the river to do some kayaking, there are plenty of places to access the James River in this area. Although it may be a little chilly temperature wise, if you are able to sneak a few hours into your trip to fish this river, you are likely to be rewarded!
