This double-deck metal arch bridge is one of Porto’s most iconic sights. Built in the 1880s, it was the world’s largest wrought-iron arch bridge connecting the city of Porto to Vila Nova de Gaia. You can cross it on foot, by bike, or take a tram on the top deck, and provides a spectacular view of the city on both sides of the river.
Vila Nova de Gaia, located just across the Douro River from Porto, is famous for its historic port wine cellars. Take a few hours and stroll along the riverside, pop into a few cellars (reservations needed), and soak in the laid-back vibe. As the city of Porto lights up in the evening, the view from Vila Nova de Gaia is simply magical.

Caves Cálem is another great stop in Vila Nova de Gaia for port wine enthusiasts. Their tours are fun and informative, taking you through the rich history of port making. The best part? You get to enjoy a tasting session in their cozy cellar, followed by a beautiful view of Porto across the river.
Cockburn's is the largest and one of the most beautiful lodge I've visited. You can also watch the coopers in action repairing barrels. You can enjoy your port in a spacious room overlooking the cellar or relax on a charming indoor terrace.
