International Travel for UK Friends and Family

We’re so excited to welcome friends and family travelling from the UK! The closest major airports to our wedding venue in Frederick, Maryland, are Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), and Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) — all approximately a one-hour drive from Frederick (traffic depending!). There are a few different ways to get here, and we’ve gathered some tips to help you find the most cost-efficient and convenient routes: 1. Flying via Dublin A popular and often budget-friendly option is to fly from the UK to Dublin (DUB) and then catch a direct flight from Dublin to IAD, DCA, or BWI. Dublin Airport offers U.S. Preclearance, meaning you’ll go through U.S. customs and immigration before you board. When you land at you’ll arrive as a domestic passenger — making it a smooth and stress-free experience. Airlines such as Aer Lingus often have competitive fares for this route. (We typically use this as its much cheaper and Dublin Airport has an awesome breakfast too!) 2. Connecting through Iceland Another great option is flying from the UK to Reykjavik (KEF) and then connecting on to the U.S. Icelandair frequently offers lower-cost fares compared to direct flights from the UK. It’s also a chance to break up the journey with a short stopover in Iceland if you’d like to explore along the way. 3. Direct flights If you prefer to fly directly, there are several nonstop flights from London airports to Washington Dulles with carriers such as British Airways and United Airlines. These can be more expensive, but they’re the quickest and most straightforward option.
