Travel Note
Lima is Peru's bustling capital city. It is known for its agreeable desert climate, soaring seaside cliffs, quaint colonial neighborhoods and most of all, as being the epicenter of the mouth-watering Peruvian cuisine scene! As with any capital city in Latin America, there are a few important things to keep in mind when visiting Lima. Traffic can be particularly bad and harrowing and for this reason it is not recommended to rent a car. However, Uber works quite well and there are safe taxis that can be ordered in the airport. Many parts of the city are not safe to walk around, so it is best to check with locals or hotel staff for a second-opinion if you aren't familiar with a certain area.
Flight
Jorge Chávez is Lima's one and only international airport. It is located in the Callao neighborhood, which is not a safe area of the city. For this reason, it is not recommended to stay in a hotel near the airport and you should not walk outside the airport grounds to search for a cheaper taxi. Safe taxis can be ordered inside the airport at the rental car counter just after baggage claim. They cost $30-$50 to take you to the areas of the city where most hotels are located. A cheaper alternative is to take a shared bus for $8 one-way. These buses are most useful if you stay in the Miraflores area near one of the bus's fixed stopping points. See this website for more information: https://www.airportexpresslima.com/ For your flight home, make sure to factor traffic into your timing to return to the airport, especially during weekdays, since most flights to the U.S. depart in the late evening just after the busy evening commute. Plan at least 1-2 hours of travel time to the airport.
Hotel
Monterrico is the neighborhood where Juliet's family lives and where our wedding events will be located. It is a quiet and safe area of Lima and is a good option for finding a hotel if you would like to be near to the main wedding events. However, it is not particularly close to the main tourist attractions and is quite far from the airport. The hotel options are limited as well although there are some Airbnb options. There are plenty of restaurants in the area and a large mall.
Hotel
Miraflores is the most popular area of Lima to stay for tourists. It is safe, walk-able and near to most of the tourist attractions, the best restaurants and the ocean. There are many hotel and hostel options in the area. However, if you stay here, you should factor in at least 30-45 min in taxi to arrive at our wedding events which will be held in the Monterrico neighborhood. Another neighborhood near Miraflores that is safe and has good hotel options is San Isidro.
