It was a random Sunday afternoon when my friend Courtney and I just finished a delicious lunch at Druther's in Saratoga. We were walking back to her apartment on Caroline Street when I spontaneously asked her if she wanted to grab a beer. We decided to go somewhere we had never been and picked the first bar we walked by. We walked into The Tavern, where we found a full bar. Just as we walked in two gentlemen at the end of the bar got up and offered us their seats. We were appreciative and sat down, we grabbed a beer menu and after looking through the 60+ beers I decided to order a Sixpoint Resin. The first thing I hear after ordering is "That's a good beer", I look to my left and there was Sean. We chatted about the beer for a minute, and my love of Sixpoint and then me, being the person I am, decided that was enough talking for now and I turned my back to him to focus on my friend Courtney. But Sean was persistent... he continued to talk to me, even with my back turned. On and on he went about beer and his many escapades of hunting it down. He then proceeded to buy us two beers, well the same Olde Saratoga Brewing beer, just one on nitro and one regular so that we could compare and contrast. Very cool. After the couple of hours of hearing more about craft beer than I ever thought possible we decided to head out. Sean walked us out of the bar, and got my number. We denied a trip to Esperanto for the illusive Cheeseburger Dough Boy and instead retreated to Courtney's apartment where we discussed our evening. Sean went home to watch Wall-E and texted us throughout the entire movie. Sean officially asked me out a few days later over a Heady Topper from his recent beer voyage to Burlington VT. We had a wonderful first date and we've been together ever since. So you never know, one day you might just walk into a bar and meet someone. It's crazy to think about but that one random decision changed my life forever.
In January, a snow storm delayed our return home from Orlando. Our airline for the inconvenience, presented us two credit vouchers and an opportunity. Before the fate of those vouchers had been decided I had already reached out to Ryan in February to employ his help in honing in on a ring which I had originally planned to present by, oh I don't know, the end of 2019. After seeing the ring, you can understand that this was not a straight forward task even with that amount of time in hand. When it was decided that a return trip to Disney in May was too lucrative to pass up with the vouchers, our ring shopping window was considerably shortened. Luckily, Ryan and I stumbled upon the winner very early into the search. I can not stress how helpful it was having Ryan in my corner. I'm looking forward to having him as my personal consultant in Gabby-related matters moving forward. Meanwhile everything else began to slide into place. The ring was ready ahead of schedule, and my lunch breaks began to fill with the logistics of where, when, and how the proposal would happen. In the end, I booked a dinner for the evening after the proposed proposal (Ha!) at the Four Seasons Resort, smuggled a ring across state lines, and had a mental list of potential spots and situations for the proposal. My mother can be credited for the spot that was settled upon, The Magic Kingdom train station. Quite a popular spot, yet not very busy considering the train was out of service at the time. After a stressful morning at MGM, a sluggish bus ride to the TTC, and a hotter-than-hot monorail trip, the mood was far from ideal. Shortly after getting through the gate, I mentioned that I needed a minute to gather myself at the train station. After a few minutes of rest we gazed out over Mainstreet USA. The castle stood in the distance, reminding us of how we had grown as a couple each time we returned to see it. That's where it happened. It was perfect.
