Francis and Kelsey met the way most modern romances begin: with Math. After exhausting traditional options, they let dating-app algorithms take a swipe. Kelsey had just moved to Austin in the summer of 2025 after a travel nurse stint in Utah that, despite the beautiful scenery, failed to produce a husband. The running joke was that she had come to Texas to find a cowboy. Francis, meanwhile, was not exactly giving ranch-hand vibes, having lived in the UK and NYC before making his way to Texas for grad school. As it turns out, Kelsey found Francis first on Hinge and started the conversation in early October. That led to a coffee date, and from there things escalated quickly. Francis fell in love dancing with Kelsey on their third date at a 1980s dance rave, which is objectively one of the more efficient ways to ruin any plans of “taking it slow.” Kelsey took a week longer to reach the same conclusion, but a three-hour convo at Loro sealed it. Somewhere between the barbecue, deep questions, and easy laughter, the spark became impossible to ignore. On October 17th they shared their first kiss at Mean Eyed Cat (ask Kelsey about this), a date that later became even sweeter when they picked October 17, 2026 for the wedding—exactly one year later. From the beginning, there was a sense that this relationship was different. Both had spent most of their twenties single and had become, by their own admission, fairly selective (picky?). Both had high standards and had more or less resigned themselves to waiting for God to place the right person in front of them. It’s ironic that, after all that waiting, they had to travel as far as they did to cross paths in ATX. Just as quickly, it became obvious that their chemistry was an unusually good match. Kelsey is an adrenaline-junkie, a social butterfly, and self-proclaimed Type B. Francis is a planner, health nut, and intense in nearly everything he does, but also a softie at heart. Somehow, their competitive and fun-loving energies compound rather than collide. They are aligned on faith, values, and the life they want to build. Both are eldest siblings, which explains their joint confidence, bossiness, and strong opinions. They also discovered, somewhat alarmingly, that both came into the relationship with unusually dramatic dental histories, which felt either like highly specific compatibility or a warning sign. Their only real disagreements so far: peanut butter consistency, bacon texture, and the thermostat. One key component to their journey is the now-famous “conversation jar,” filled with questions on slips of paper. Some are lighthearted, some serious, and some skip straight to topics most people avoid for months or even years. It became a fun, slightly nerdy, and surprisingly effective way to get to know each other. Add in dancing, live music, new restaurants, skiing, hiking, bonfires, coffee, and dreams of buying a castle in Italy, and it did not take long to realize this thing had legs. By Christmas 2025, both knew they wanted to get married. “When you know, you know” sounds cliché until it happens to you. Sometimes love shows up when it is least expected and moves at a pace no one can really control. For Francis and Kelsey, that pace made more sense when they stopped trying to manage every detail and let God take the reins. That became even clearer in February, when they spent the month in Montana. Kelsey thought the proposal was still weeks away, as Francis had convincingly claimed the ring was delayed. Naturally, that was a lie. He had secretly brought it to Montana and, on Valentine’s Day, proposed at the Grotto on Carroll’s campus. With help from two of his sisters and brother-in-law, Francis pulled off his best heist yet: Kelsey said YES. After the wedding, Francis and Kelsey will stay in Austin for the near-term, with the ultimate goal of moving to Montana to raise their family. So yes, Kelsey still got her Texas love story—just not with the kind of cowboy she expected.
