Downtown Huntsville is small yet charming, especially in May. Take a walk around Big Spring Park and feed the ducks, and eat at some of the local restaurants around there. If you're traveling with children, you can also visit the interactive EarlyWorks Museum.
If you're making a weekend out of it, it's worth spending time in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which is only a 3.5-hour drive from Huntsville. You can hike and visit Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge - and best of all, Dollywood!
Nashville is only two hours north of Huntsville. Enjoy the many delicious eateries, visit or stay at the Opryland Hotel, and check out The Parthenon. You may also find cheaper flights to Nashville than Huntsville.
Huntsville is only 5.5 hours from Destin, one of the most beautiful beaches in Florida. Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, and Seaside are also approximately the same distance from Huntsville.
Asheville is a 5-hour drive from Huntsville. Visit the Blue Ridge Mountains and Biltmore Estate. Aside from Christmas, May is my favorite time of year to visit Biltmore because of the tulip garden. On your way there, stop by Knoxville where Andy and I met. We have tons of food and attraction recommendations!
