Most people assume Nick & Jess met Grey’s Anatomy-style, seeing each other for the first time from across a hospital hallway. In reality, their first date was via a 2-hour Zoom call during the 2020 Covid-lockdown. They talked for hours about their shared nerdy interests of Avatar the Last Airbender, Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh cards, and collecting rocks. And even with 30 miles and two screens separating them, it didn’t take long to realize they were kindred spirits. They were floored on their third date when Jess showed up wearing a dinosaur necklace that happened to match Nick’s dinosaur socks. Nick kept looking at her dinosaur necklace while Jessica was thinking he was looking at her cleavage! Even the ways in which they're different highlight how balanced they are together: Jess had a stiff Old Fashioned on their first in-person date, while Nick had a blended orange creamsicle thing with a paper umbrella. After a few weeks of dating, they finally ran into each other at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. Jess started waking up at 4 am to apply makeup for the super handsome new resident she was dating. Nick got into trouble for taking so many snacks at the Resident Lounge- not for him, but for Jess. And from there, the blending of their lives started. Los Angeles-born-and-raised Jess now loves goetta, Skyline, and taco dip, and understands what types of snow make the best snowballs for throwing. Midwest Nick likes shrimp heads, mochi, loves all things taro/ube-flavored, and was ecstatic when a boba shop opened down the street from their home.
