0 kilometers. The only boulangerie in town, Le Fournil de Flavigny opened in 2022 and now supplies the town’s baguettes and pastries. 12 kilometers. Nestled in the heart of a wooded valley in Burgundy, the Château de Bussy-Rabutin stands out for its architecture, its strolling parks and gardens, and above all for the originality of its decoration, designed by Count Roger de Bussy-Rabutin…the disgraced Lothario of King Louis XIV’s court.
17 kilometers. Semur-en-Auxois has a medieval core, built on a pink granite bluff more than half-encircled by the River Armançon. While Semur is certainly worth exploring on your own, fear not, gentle traveler! The wedding group will be venturing to Semur for dinner after the ceremony.
24 kilometers. Classified as a French historic monument as early as 1862, it was listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1981. It was one of the first French monuments to appear on this list, which recognized the exceptional value of both the Fontenay Abbey complex and its natural surroundings.
31 kilometers. A masterpiece of 18th-century industrial heritage, it was built by the famous naturalist Comte de Buffon. It comprises a unique architectural ensemble combining the domestic and industrial parts of the building. Listed as an historic monument, it bears witness to the scientific genius of the Age of Enlightenment.
41 kilometers. The old village of Châteauneuf dominates the surrounding countryside of Auxois in Burgundy. The town, which is designated as one of the most beautiful villages in France, has kept the powerful castle flanked by massive towers.
59 kilometers. Avallon has been occupied since Roman times and is an attractive town of cobbled streets, open gardens and fine balconied townhouses. The centre of the town, reached through an imposing 15th century gateway-clocktower, is the square that includes the 12th century Collegiale Church of Saint-Lazare. In 1985, a theory arose that the French city of Avallon was the “Isle of Avalon” mentioned in the historic legend of King Arthur.
80 kilometers. Beaune is a town in the centre of Burgundy between Dijon and Autun. Best known for the wine produced in the region and its unique architecture, Beaune is a pleasant town to explore. Don’t miss the Marché de Beaune every Saturday!
