How to Get to the Island

The typical trip to the island will consist of flying close to Mackinaw City, driving the rest of the way, then taking a ferry to the island. Hotels on the island are limited, so booking early (about a year out) is encouraged!

Flight

Nearby Airports

Pellston (PLN) is 30 minutes away from the ferry in Mackinaw City, with flights to and from Detroit (DTW) on Delta. There is a shuttle from the airport to the ferry docks. There are minimal car rentals available at this airport. Traverse City (TVC) is just 2 hours away from the ferry in Mackinaw City. There are more car rental options available at this airport. Detroit (DTW) is just over 4 hours away from the ferry dock in Mackinaw City. There are many flight and car rental options available at this airport.

Ferries

Both Shepler's Ferry and The Arnold Transit Company ferry service the island, leaving from Mackinaw City (Lower Peninsula) or St. Ignace (Upper Peninsula). If staying on the Island, you will need to arrange your travel around the ferry schedules. Tickets can be bought online ahead of time or at the dock (we recommending buying ahead to avoid lines). Parking is available at each location on the mainland. We recommend leaving at least 20 minutes to park as the lots can be a 10 minute walk away. The ferry takes about half an hour (1 hour if a Classic or Pirate Boat) to get to the island. Getting to the island: there are ferry times every 30 minutes to 1 1/2 hours with the last boat leaving at 10pm. Leaving the Island: The ferry takes about half an hour (1 hour if a Classic or Pirate Boat) to get to the mainland. The first departure time is 8 am. If you choose to stay somewhere not on the island, please note that the last boat the evening of the wedding will depart at 10:30pm. The reception is a 15-minute walk from the ferry dock.

Hotel

Room Block at Mission Point Resort

One Lake Shore Drive, Mackinac Island, MI 49757

This is where we will be having the ceremony and reception. The resort is less than a mile and a pleasant 15-minute walk from town. There is a room block available through the link. We recommend booking a room on the Island as far out as possible. There are many other excellent hotel options on the island. Most of the hotels open up booking for next season 1 year out. We recommend that those staying on the island plan to get in on Friday, as many hotels require a 2-night stay.

Travel on the Island

The Island itself is very accessible walking or biking. Horse-drawn taxis are also available. For those staying at mission point, there is a shuttle service between town and the hotel during the hours the ferries are running. It is cash only and a one way trip is $9.

We will gladly help coordinate carpooling between our guests. Please reach out if you are interested in sharing a rental car from a nearby airport, or a longer road trip. Likewise, if you would like to share a room with someone, please let us know so we can help match you up.
