Choose your paradise

The Philippines counts more than 7,000 islands, so unless you have a decade to spare, you just have to make a choice. Below are some of our favorite spots in the Philippines. Each place is unique and there are no good or bad choices. It just depends on what you want to do! ------- Pro tips: Don't get overly ambitious with your itinerary. Being on time is really not a thing in the Philippines, so avoid making travel plans that involve short connections or too many destinations. Manila is one of the densest cities on EARTH, so expect major traffic jams. If you are staying only one night in Manila to take an early flight the next day, find a hotel near the airport. Book local. Major online booking websites don’t always have access to everything there is to book. For all local accommodation and flight options, be sure to check out www.traveloka.com

Bohol

Central Visayas, Philippines

Good for: Celebrating with us! :D Also good for: Beach-bumming on white sand beaches, jungle adventures (tarsiers, Chocolate Hills, ziplining and river cruises), and island-hopping. Check out the 'Plan Your Trip' section for more info on getting here.

El Nido

El Nido

Palawan, Philippines

Good for: Diving, snorkeling, island-hopping, white sand beaches, lagoons and dramatic limestone cliffs. Air Swift is the only airline with direct flights from Cebu/Manila to El Nido. You can also opt to fly to Puerto Princessa, which is serviced by Cebu Pacific Air. El Nido is a 4-5 hour bus ride from Puerto Princessa. If you want a more peaceful and family-friendly area to stay in El Nido, be sure to check out Lio Beach, an eco-tourism village offering a variety of hotels and restaurants.

Siargao

Surigao Del Norte, Philippines

Our favorite spot so far! Good for: Surfing, island-hopping, scenic motorcycle rides, lagoons, delicious food and happy/hippie vibes! Skyjet Airlines has direct flights from Manila; Cebu Pacific Air has direct flights from both Cebu and Manila; and Philippines Airlines has direct flights from Cebu. Siargao has countless boutique hotels and hostels to choose from, but be sure to book your flights and stay in advance as it's quickly becoming the most prized destination in the PH!

Siquijor

Central Visayas, Philippines

Good for: Beaches, island-hopping (check out the turtles on Apo island!), scenic motorcycle rides, and waterfalls. The island also happens to be the land of witchcraft, but we swear you won't turn into a toad ;) Getting to Siquijor requires flying to Dumaguete then taking a ferry. Cebu Pacific and Philippines Airlines have direct flights to Dumaguete from Manila.

Boracay

Western Visayas, Philippines

Good for: Partying, beach bumming, and an Ibiza feel! There are two possible points of arrival: Caticlan (about 1.5 hours away from Boracay proper) and Kalibo (only 15 min away). Cebu Pacific Air has direct flights to Caticlan from both Cebu and Manila. Meanwhile, Skyjet Airlines flies directly from Manila to Kalibo. Good to know: Boracay is currently closed to tourists in an effort to address environmental concerns, but is expected to reopen in late 2018.

Coron

Coron

Palawan, Philippines

Good for: Diving, snorkeling, island hopping, lagoons/lakes, hot springs. Cebu Pacific Air and Philippines Airlines run flights several times a day from Manila. If possible avoid the later flights as the Coron airport (Busuanga) doesn’t have runway lights and flights can’t land after dusk.
