Jongwoon and Esther met in 2019 while he was a graduate student at Virginia Tech and she was applying for graduate school. They connected through a dating app and had their first date in Centreville. During that date, Jongwoon challenged Esther to a game of bowling, which she won. They playfully joke that Jongwoon fell in love with Esther because of her bowling skills.

In 2022, they traveled to Oman where Jongwoon proposed with the help of his family. Due to COVID-19 and their busy academic schedules, they opted for a small court wedding in Virginia. This August, they're excited to finally exchange vows in front of their loved ones!
