Florence and the surrounding area are absolutely gorgeous. Some of our favorites include Hobbit Beach and Heceta Head Lighthouse. Just pack a couple of $5 bills for any recreational parking fees and warm and waterproof clothes for any surprise weather changes!
Florence, particularly the historic "old town Florence" district, is a moderately sized tourist town with a long row of art galleries, gift shops, restaurants, antique shops, and docks. I particularly like River Roasters, the local go-to coffee joint with a view. Novelli's Crab & Seafood is the best local spot to get crab chowder, but you might have to be strategic to get there before they sell out!
If you're into wildlife, the sea lion caves are a delightful (if stinky) peek into an underground cavern chock-full of seabirds and California seal lions. Adult tickets are $16 each, but the money is well worth it if you're into this kind of thing.
The Oregon dunes are a surreal and interesting place to wander - if you like sand. There's plenty of opportunity for hiking, kayaking, birding, and picnicking.
