About Us Jake is from a small town outside of St. Louis, Missouri. He is pursuing his PhD in Materials Science at Penn State. Jake's favorite things in life are hunting, fishing, baseball, and his fiancé of course! Erin was born in Sydney, Australia and grew up in sunny Naples, FL. Erin is pursuing her law degree at Penn State Law. Her favorite things in life are Disney, her fur babies, delicious food and wine, and Jake! How We Met Jake and Erin met at Missouri S&T in 2013. After initially clashing like oil and water, the next year they became best friends and spent all of their time together. As luck would have it, they started to fall for each other- although neither was quick to admit it. Finally, when Jake left on his yearly hunting trip, he realized it was now or never, and took a leap of faith to ask out the girl of his dreams. Wouldn’t you know, Erin said yes. Their first date was to Christmas in the Park in Rolla, MO complete with hot chocolate and Christmas carols! The rest, as they say, is history. The Proposal! Erin and Jake were in her favorite place, Steamboat Springs, CO, with their good friends on a ski trip. On January 11, 2017 Jake asked if they could take pictures at the top of the mountain after the first day of skiing. Unfortunately, he misread what time the gondola closed and they couldn't ride up! Their next plan was to go to a gorgeous frozen waterfall, so they all piled in the car- but suddenly the road was blocked by a semi who had jack-knifed. Erin started to suspect something was up when Jake told her he wasn't giving up and to tell him another of her favorite spots. So off they drove across town to a cute little bridge over the frozen river and ran through the snow to get there before sunset. As they were "posing for photos" Jake got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife, and who would have guessed- Erin said yes!
