Lady of Honor
My wombmate! We met at birth and have known each other since. 25 years and counting she has been by my side through tall highs and deep lows. We've been a lot of things to each other over the years; friends, best friends, enemies, support systems, shoulders for tears, voices for encouragement, ears to listen, and hands to care for. Margaret is my forever exit buddy, someone I am proud of and proud to call my sister, someone I can confide in, speak honestly to, and love with the deepest love that comes with so many years shared. I believe she and I help each other grow and learn about life and its fickleness, and for this I choose to honor my sweet sissy with witnessing Tommy and I's marriage because I trust her, know her, and love her. Here's to 1,000 more hose-trampoline sessions babe!
Best Gentleman
When Colin and I met on our first day in the UW freshman dorms, we perhaps had a small inkling of the long-running friendship that was coming into being, given that we shared the same set of dance moves (a small selection, but enthusiastic). It started with a dance party, and has spiraled into being a decade of late nights, creative projects, walks, runs, more dancing, games, good times, tough times, and a general spirit of positivity and support. Through the years, I always know that when I need an injection of honest kindness or just a bit of company I need only call, even when the West Seattle Bridge is down. I'm forever grateful for his humor, perspective, and music recommendations, and I knew that he was going to have to be my Best Gentleman.
Lady of the Bride
Courtney Shaw, what a wonderful human to call my bestie. Court and I met in college during our first year. I was scared of looking like a moron in front of her, and she thought I was an actual adult due to my glasses and cardigans. We soon learned that we were really just two big science nerds that were really into our feelings. Courtney has supported me in everything under the sun from thermo homework and grocery runs, to managing grief and living far away from my family. She is truly my partner in crime, shoulder to cry on, ice cream run buddy, and my best friend. With one look we can communicate a thousand words (though sometimes at the risk of being mistaken for a lesbian couple), I cannot imagine my life or my wedding without her, and I am so grateful to have her by my side.
Lady of the Groom
One of my oldest and dearest friends, it's up to Mars to keep me in line and provide the party when I inevitably stray from said line. We've seen our fair share of times together, more good than bad, and I can always count on Mars to prop me up and give clear advice when it's needed the most. Not to mention she's exposed me to more good meals than I can possibly count, including steaks at 2:00 in the morning and her specialty pecan tartlettes just about every year. She also saved Erin and I's sanity after we spent 12 hours moving into our first apartment, and Mars came by with dinner and ice cream in hand (we are eternally grateful). After years of friendship, I'm very honored to have her in my wedding party.
Lady of the Bride
My 7th-grade sista! Chloe is the most loyal friend I could ask for, and the length of our friendship proves that. Having met in 7th grade, we not only endured middle and high school together, we went through huge changes, losses, transformations, movements, and adjustments to find ourselves 12 years later, thousands of miles apart, yet close as ever. I am a stronger person for my friendship with Chloe because of her perseverance, integrity, and resilience, and the inspiration that comes from all of that. Chloe knows how to have fun, how to be vulnerable and open, and how to bring people together. I cherish my friendship with this woman and hope to someday have something like her kindness and spirit instilled within me. For this, I choose Chloe to be with me on my wedding day.
Gentleman of the Groom
Perhaps my oldest friend, Antonio and I have been hanging out since we were on the 1st grade playground at Wedgwood Elementary school in 1998 (Go Wedgwood Dolphins). Since then we've shared schools, bands, and in-jokes for over 2 decades. He is a major creative inspiration as well as the exemplar of combining good fashion with nerdy interests, much needed for my own wardrobe. Throughout our many, many lengthy conversations I can always trust him to quietly drop pieces of wisdom and memes at regular intervals, sometimes in the same breath. From the jungle gym to here, he's always been there for whatever...including being in my wedding party!
