The zoo is one of our favorite places to go! In our first apartment together we were just 2 blocks away and it was a wonderful way for us to reconnect with nature and learn about our surroundings! The zoo is not like a typical zoo, it is more a park than anything! Lots of plants and CYOA nature paths. Interactive exhibits with birds are free, and if you know us well you know to check out the "tall bird" part of the zoo!
Right near the zoo is the beautiful and bright, award winning rose garden! We love walking through the rose garden first thing in the morning to get reacquainted with nature, natural beauty, and to observe how the garden changes throughout the seasons. Fun fact: the gorillas in the zoo love to snack on the roses after they've been clipped off! Bonus points if you can find the spot from where the photo was taken! (it's one of our favorites)
If you're looking for some yummy Irish grub, take a gander at our first date restaurant! T.S. McHugh's has great burgers and terrible salads and is a short (though steep) walk to Kerry Park (if you're really committed to following out 1st date footsteps!). Kerry Park looks out over the Seattle skyline (particularly beautiful at night), and we found out later that on our first date we both wanted to kiss here, but are both glad we waited until we knew each other better!
For our ultimate vice, try out The Ballard Mandarin! It may look sketchy to some from the outside, but you will not be disappointed with this authentic and delicious Chinese food! We usually go for a noodle dish and the garlic chicken to share with eggrolls. Great for after a long flight, long move, long pandemic, and is our ultimate go-to for comfort food!
Erin cried real tears when Tommy took her here for the first time in 2019. For anyone coming from Texas craving Mexican food, this is your spot! It looks, feels, smells, and tastes like home for Erin and we try to come here as often as we can!
