In lieu of gifts we are asking our guests to consider giving to a charitable cause! We have listed three that are near and dear to our hearts. If you have a foundation you prefer donating to, please do it!
The Wingman Foundation
The Wingman Foundation was founded by three Active Duty Marine Corps aviators in late 2014. Each serving nearly a decade with multiple deployments, they saw many tragic losses in the aviation community. Sadly, friends and families were often left to seek support through sister organizations. On October 1st, 2014, a MV-22 crew chief died in support of Operation INHERENT RESOLVE. Deeply affected by yet another loss to the community, they agreed to make a change that evening. The Wingman Foundation was born. With the support of friends and the Marine Corps community, they were able to successfully launch their organization without ever being in the same country. In the years that followed, The Wingman Foundation has grown to an all-volunteer staff of over a dozen active and former Marine and Navy pilots and civilians. We now support both Navy and Marine Corps aviation on both coasts as well as those stationed abroad.
Susan G. Komen Foundation
No matter who you are or where you live, breast cancer may touch your life. Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the U.S. and around the world. In 2019, about 268,600 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. alone. Thanks to the generosity of our donors and supporters, we’re funding lifesaving research in all areas of breast cancer, from basic biology to prevention to treatment and to survivorship. And with continued support, this scientific research will address some of the most pressing issues in breast cancer today: -Identifying and improving methods of early detection -Ensuring more accurate diagnoses -Developing new approaches to prevention -Enabling personalized treatments based on breast cancer subtypes and the genetic make-up of a tumor
Memphis First United Methodist Church
190 years ago a young Methodist preacher, Reverend Thomas Davidson, rode into an unruly town on the Mississippi River with a population of around 500 called Memphis, TN. He had a vision of starting a church from which other churches would grow. In February of 1826, Rev. Thomas and three others held the first worship service of what would become the first church in Memphis and would later be called Memphis First United Methodist Church. In 1832, 11 faithful members sought to buy land and build a place of worship so they could increase their ability to reach out to the people of Memphis. Within a year, the church had been built upon the plot of land where First Church sits now. 185 years later, the people of First Church face similar situation. In 2006, the historic sanctuary of Memphis First UMC caught fire and was destroyed. The new Sanctuary opened in 2018 and serves as an inviting and welcoming front door to the community of worship, but there is still work to be done!
