Matt and Erica met working at Yale’s College mental health and counseling office. Initially Matt wasn’t too sure about the accidentally-offensive-toward-social-workers Erica while she wondered if Matt could really be as nice and great as he seemed... but they eventually came to be fast friends. After a year of strict friendship, miscommunications, and a few accidental supervised friend dates, Matt asked Erica out for their first solo venture on July 3rd, 2019.

Matt knew he wanted to marry Erica by the end of their first date which ended on the lawn of the Yale observatory. He picked out the first day of spring (March 21st) as the day to do it and nothing was going to get in his way...not even a worldwide pandemic. Despite restaurant reservations being canceled, toilet paper shortages, and some inconvenient flu-like symptoms Matt planned a day of all of Erica’s favorite things. Mid way of these favorite things they found out those inconvenient cold symptoms were in fact corona virus. Despite these hurdles, Matt managed to get Erica back to the lawn of the Yale observatory alone to stare at the stars again. There he got down on one knee and proposed. Erica said yes and immediately forgave Matt for infecting her with coronavirus.
