How We Met

Between Sao Paulo, Madrid, Mexico City and New York, one day our paths finally crossed

On October 2014, Enrique had just moved back to Mexico after living in Brazil for 4 years and Erika had just started a new job at bank in New York. As part of their jobs they were asked to attend a work lunch in Mexico City and that’s how they met! It was Erika’s first work trip at her new job and she was expected to speak Spanish. At this lunch meeting it was brought up that Enrique had lived in Brazil and in a table of six guys and one girl, Enrique had a strong competitive advantage and took the lucky spot next to Erika. Erika was relieved to avoid speaking Spanish as they carried a bilateral conversation in Portuguese. They were so focused on talking to each other that at some point someone called their attention back to the table. The lunch was eventually over but that was just day #1 of their journey. A couple of emails here and there and the next day they met for dinner before Erika headed back to New York. After talking on the phone for a couple of days, Enrique bought his ticket to New York and they patiently waited for one and a half month before they met again. Finally they were reunited in New York in December and right there they knew that the connection they had over the phone, whatsapp messages and skype dates was real. Almost 3 years later and they are still flying back and forth, meeting in places in between, travelling to see Erika’s family and accumulating too many miles!

The Proposal

Paris.... the city of lights and love

In November 2016 Erika had to go to Paris for work and they thought it would be great if Enrique could meet Erika in Paris for the weekend. The stars once again aligned and they were able to meet in the city of lights. On a beautiful Saturday they walked around Paris while Enrique carried a backpack which Erika thought it was weird but useful as she kept opening it to put away the souvenirs that she bought. Finally it was time for them to take a cruise around the Seine. What Erika didn’t know was that Enrique had hired a private boat for the tour. She was really surprised (and nervous) when a beautiful Venetian boat approached the dock. After a glass or two of Bourdeaux, Enrique gave Erika a lock with their names engraved so they could lock it in one of the beautiful Parisian bridges. Right after that, Enrique reached for his backpack again, but this time he pulled a black box. Erika immediately knew what was about to happen and started to cry and barely listened to what Enrique was saying. Until this day they don’t know what was said. Before placing the ring on her finger he asked: is this a yes?
