Travel Note
We are having our wedding in Grand Haven, MI! Grand Haven is on the shore of Lake Michigan. It has beaches, dune hiking trails, a lighthouse and a pier, many parks, kayak and bike rentals, and a charming downtown with coffee shops and restaurants. It is also home to the Coast Guard Festival which runs July 26 - Aug 4, so we’ll overlap with the start of it! Grand Haven is about 20 minutes from Holland, about 40 minutes from Laketown/Saugatuck/Douglas, about 45 minutes from Grand Rapids, about 1.5 hours from Lansing, about 2.5 hours from Ann Arbor/Detroit, and about 3 hours from Chicago.
Flight
Grand Rapids is the closest airport to the venue (45 min from Grand Haven) and has a moderate selection of flights. It is also close to hotels and is a big city with a lot to do.
Flight
Detroit is somewhat farther away but it's the biggest local airport and has the most flight options. It’s about 2.5 hours from Grand Haven. We have some friends coming from the Detroit area and there is also a bus to Lansing, so there may be ride options if needed!
Flight
Lansing airport is very small. It's between GRR and DTW in terms of distance from the venue in Grand Haven. Alice and Emmett/Alex both live in Lansing so we could potentially pick you up!
Flight
Chicago has two large airports with a variety of flight options. It takes about 3 hours to get to the Holland/Grand Haven area from Chicago by car. There is also an Amtrak train in the evening that goes from Chicago to Holland. We could pick you up from the station.
Train
If you're flying into Chicago, there is an Amtrak train that goes from Chicago to Holland in the evening. We can pick you up at the Holland train station which is right in the center of town. It goes back from Holland to Chicago in the morning. The train also goes from Grand Rapids to Holland if you fly into GRR and prefer to take a train to Holland rather than drive. This train is only very early in the morning. The Holland station code is "HOM"
Travel Note
Grand Haven is where the venue is located, but it has limited hotels. There's also the Coast Guard Festival happening from July 26-Aug 4 which adds some fun things to do but also makes it a bit busier. Holland (North Side) is about 20 minutes from the venue and has more hotel options. Saugatuck/Douglas is close to where Cathy and John live in Laketown, which is near Holland's south side. It is about 40 minutes from the venue and it's a very nice lakeside vacation town. Grand Rapids is close to the airport if you're flying through GRR and has the most hotel options. It's also the biggest nearby city and has lots to do! It’s about 45 minutes from Grand Haven.
Travel Note
If you are interested in camping, there is some outdoor camping space at Cathy and John's house in Laketown. Enjoy a front row seat to the ongoing turf war between Aldebaran the rooster and the wild turkey flock! Let us know if you're interested in this option.
