One of Telluride’s most popular trails, Bear Creek Falls is loved for its accessibility and stunning waterfall views. The wide, well-maintained path begins right from downtown Telluride and leads you through a beautiful aspen grove. It’s a great choice for an easy hike - perfect for a morning adventure or a relaxed afternoon walk.
Bridal Veil Falls Difficulty: Moderate Distance: 2 miles (out and back) Duration: 1.5- 2 hours Elevation Gain: 859 ft The Bridal Veil Falls Trail leads to Colorado’s tallest free-falling waterfall, cascading 365 feet down a dramatic cliff at the end of Telluride’s box canyon. The trailhead is located about 2 miles from downtown Telluride, near the Pandora Mill - it’s walkable for some, but most visitors prefer to drive or bike to the start of the hike. The views from the top make every step worth it!
Alta Lakes Road is 6 miles south of Telluride on Hwy. 145. Take the left-hand turn, and stay on the main road for four miles to reach the ghost town of Alta. To get to the lakes, turn right at the town and follow the signs to Alta Lakes. High-clearance vehicles are recommended.
Drive the Scenic Last Dollar Road For one of the most breathtaking drives in the Telluride area, take a trip along Last Dollar Road. Winding through open meadows, aspen groves, and rolling ranchland, this scenic route offers some of the best mountain views in Colorado - including sweeping vistas of the San Juan peaks and Telluride Valley. The road begins just outside of town and stretches about 18 miles to Ridgway, but even driving the first few miles rewards you with incredible photo spots, especially in the fall when the aspens turn golden. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended, particularly after rain, as sections can be rough or muddy. It’s a local favorite for a peaceful afternoon drive, with views that truly capture the heart of Telluride.
