Steffan and Emily loved Rooster Teeth at the time - a YouTube channel dedicated to comedy, video games, and animated shows. For many years, Rooster Teeth hosted an annual convention (RTX) in Austin, Texas at the Convention Center and at its peak popularity had tens of thousands of attendees. Hearing positive things about this event, Emily and Steffan both decided to make the journey to Texas with their friends. On the first day of RTX, Emily decided to wait in line for merchandise outside the expo hall. The line was long and people were passing the time by chatting with others. The person in front of Emily in line was none other than Steffan, playing Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on his Nintendo Switch. Emily and Steffan hit it off very well, he even joined Emily and her friends at event panels. When it was time to part ways and say goodbyes, they exchanged contact info. Since Emily lived in Minnesota while Steffan lived in Louisiana, they made an effort to stay in touch online. After a year of Snapchat messages and many video calls, Emily and Steffan realized their feelings for one another and began dating on July 1st, 2018. Steffan went back to school to get his associate's degree in software development, graduated in 2020, and moved up to Minnesota to be with Emily.

Steffan planned a special outing with friends to visit somewhere he and Emily loved in downtown Minneapolis, The Guthrie Theater's Endless Bridge. It was one of the first places Emily showed Steffan in Minnesota and has our favorite view of downtown Minneapolis. When Steffan asked Emily if she wanted to go visit friends around the area, she didn't think anything of it! It was a hot summer day, around 95 degrees without a single cloud in the sky. Steffan and Emily met friends at Mill Ruins Park and they walked along the Stone Arch Bridge to take some pictures. Afterward, they made their way to The Guthrie, Steffan was quieter than usual but it didn't seem too suspicious according to Emily. Their friends stayed back by the entrance to the lookout while Steffan and Emily made their way to the front of the bridge. That's when Steffan got down on one knee and without hesitation or preemptive speech said, "Will you marry me?" and she said yes!
