Emily was bartending at Austin's favorite local pub and restaurant in their college town, Allendale, Michigan. Austin knew right away, when Emily had come up to their table, that he needed to get to know her. He cracked jokes, and that's all she needed. The both of them were inseparable after that, and since then have grown to be each other's best friend. She always says, "I got him drunk enough to fall in love, and now he's dumb enough to say with me the rest of his life." Both are the definition of opposites attract in the best way possible.
Austin and Emily were on their second National Park expedition. Their first was to Yellowstone and Glacier National Park, where they will be getting married! This trip was to Zion National Park and the Grand Canyon. Emily's family has always been very involved in the outdoors and national parks, so to see the Grand Canyon was on Emily's bucket list. Austin planned the whole birthday vacation for her nearly start to finish. First morning they woke on vacation, Austin was pacing all morning. They started their hike on the South Kaibab Trail on the south rim of the Grand Canyon, and after they finished their morning PBJs at Cedar Ridge Point they started back up the long hike back. He pulled her to the side of the trail and fumbled with his backpack for a few moments. That's when he asked her for her forever. They were alone, and it was perfect.
