Question

What's the time change?

Answer

Switzerland is 6 hours ahead of EST.

Question

What do you expect the weather to be like?

Answer

Hopefully really nice! In June the Oberlands can range 64°F to 82°F. However, keep in mind it may vary depending on where you are in Switzerland due to the elevation. The alps can drop to 45°F.

Question

Any tips on packing?

Answer

M: Pack what you want. E: Okay Manuel, I'll take this one. Pack LIGHT. From the cars to the trains to the stairwells, pretty much everything in Europe is SMALL. On my first trip to Switzerland, my better half's advice let me lugging a HUGE suitcase around. I couldn't tell if I was sweating from the weight or sheer embarrassment. I've since condensed to a carry on sized suitcase + duffle bag (BEIS The Carry-On Roller + The Weekender) and my trips have been a lot more enjoyable ever since.

Question

What do Swiss people wear?

Answer

M: Normal clothes. E: He's actually right, normal clothes. While there are parts of Switzerland that are flashier than others, I would argue that comfort and activity are a larger focus. Wear things that are comfortable, functional, and interchangeable. Layering is great.

Question

Do I need to switch currency?

Answer

It is not necessary to switch from US currency to Swiss Franc (CHF) but a small amount may be beneficial in some circumstances (local cheese store in Spiez). Credit cards are accepted at most retailers and you will be billed the appropriate conversion rate. If you do decide to draw currency, you'll need your debit care and a rate may apply. Consult your personal bank for more details.

Question

Tell me about drinking in Switzerland.

Answer

E: I'll let you tackle this one, Schätzele. M: Firstly, the drinking age for beer/wine is 16 years old. The drinking age for hard liquor is 18 years old. Also, drinking in public is permitted. You may see people riding the trains have a beer or wine. This is permitted.

Question

What else should I see?

Answer

M: Eat cheese. Go to the alps. If looking to explore more of Europe by flight, Amsterdam is probably my favorite city in Europe. I'd also recommend Scandanavia: Denmark, Norway, Sweden. By train my recommendations would be Milan and London. France (Paris) is accessible as well. E: Ask him how he feels about the French.
