Well, we've set up a small registry on this website which only ships inside the US. So to prevent from having to ship all our gifts from the US, we also registered at the following places. Feel free to gift us from any of the three registries! Amazon.co.uk (https://www.amazon.co.uk/wedding/emilee-stansell-arne-flick-berlin-july-2018/registry/1JQWSHJVYRG0Z) John Lewis (guest list number 744240 - https://www.johnlewisgiftlist.com/giftint/JSPs/GiftList/BuyGifts/GuestFindAList.jsp)
A taxi from Tegel (TXL) could take around 30-40 min, and cost as much as €30. From Schönefeld (SXF) 30-50 min (depending on traffic) and cost as much as €40. There will be a taxi stand at the airport, but sometimes the line can be long. For those more adventurous, Google maps will do a great job guiding you step by step on how to take public transit.
We will be setting up some pre-wedding events to hang out with any/all guests that arrive early. Please check out the schedule tab for details on what we are thinking as of today. But arriving in time for Friday night's welcome drinks has you here for the official wedding events. If you can plan to stay through Sunday night, this would ensure you don't miss anything we have planned.
Most locations accept all major credit cards. Occasionally American Express will not be accepted, so plan to have a backup Mastercard or Visa option on hand. Germany is also a very big cash country. It is a good idea to have a small amount of cash with you for smaller purchases and/or as a backup to locations only accepting cash. The best way to get cash is to take your US bank/debit card to a local German bank and take out cash from their ATM. Try NOT to exchange your currency at the airports as they will charge a fee. You will get the best exchange rate by going to a local German bank. Note: Your US bank will charge you an international transaction fee; if you take out enough cash in one visit you can avoid running up those charges.
Yes, all major credit cards should be accepted. Just ask about American Express as sometimes places in Europe prefer a Visa or Mastercard. You should expect to see a foreign transaction fee on your bill, unless you have a credit card that offers international purchasing without a fee as a benefit. To find out if your credit card offers this benefit, just give them a call and ask. You also have time to open a card that covers this for you before the trip. Check out this link for some suggestions: https://thepointsguy.com/guide/top-cards-with-no-foreign-transaction-fees/
Please consult the schedule tab for details on what to wear to each event. For the wedding, we will ask guests to attend in cocktail, or black tie attire. Men don't worry about wearing a tux, but a solid suit option works! Ladies, short or long dresses will work.
Quoting the groom: "Outside of the hotel it sucks. We don’t provide WiFi as everywhere else in the world. Some of the cooler Cafés have it. But not much. Ask. EVERYONE speaks English in Germany."
US cell phone providers will offer an international data/calling plan. Please reach out to your local provider for more information. However, this option can be pricey. For example, Verizon charges a flat $10 a day; with 10 days of travel you can spend an extra $100 on your monthly phone bill. A great alternative however is to buy a pre-paid Mobile SIM Card when you land. A secret most US carries won't tell you, it is illegal for them to "lock your phone in with a SIM." Therefore, you can just switch it out. Email the bride if you have questions on this. Look for a Telekom Store and buy a Pre-Paid Sim Card with Mobile Internet and local calling. You likely won't need more than €20 for the full trip.
The general answer is yes. Just bring along a power converter - US to Europe. You can buy these on Amazon (http://a.co/cRyaa7A). The bride has had zero issues charging phones, portable speakers, ipads and computers. But for some reason she has killed more than one hair dryer and curling iron. So travel with those at your own risk :) If you must have a curling iron while local, check out Media Saturn for a large and cheap selection. Your hotel will provide you with a hair dryer.
Yes! Please reach out if there is food allergy we should know about. We are currently preparing for meat lovers, vegetarians and vegans alike! But if there is an explicit allergy, let us know.
