A great playlist with our favorite songs or songs that are meaningful to us both. Our third date was at a Damien Jurado show and we’ve been to countless other shows throughout our relationship. Sylvan Esso, Lord Huron, the National, Andrew Bird and Death Cab for Cutie all make appearances.
This cozy and eclectic neighborhood is packed with award-winning restaurants and fledgling breweries. It also happened to be home to our first apartment. Our favorite spots include: - Milktooth (brunch) - Rook (lunch/dinner) - Bluebird (dinner/cocktails) - Calvin Fletcher's Coffee Company - Amelia's Bread (bakery/coffee) - Great American Donut Company - Tappers Arcade Bar - Hotel Tango Distillery - Chilly Water Brewing Company The neighborhood is also bisected by the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, which links the city's historic neighborhoods. Everything in Fletcher Place is easily walkable, including a short jaunt south to Fountain Square. To the northwest sits the Alexander Hotel. Inside, you'll find signature cocktails at Plat 99 or fine Italian dining at Nesso.
Located less than a mile from Fletcher Place, Fountain Square also packs plenty of great restaurants, bars, and activities into a small footprint. La Margarita and Siam Square are staples. For you metalheads, we recommend Kuma's Corner, which makes tasty burgers whose name pay homage to those who thrash. Or if you want a tiki bar, check out Revolucion. Just looking to grab a drink? Thunderbird, the Brass Ring, Fountain Square Brewery, and Upland Taproom are all nearby. Head to the Fountain Square Theater Building with the family for duck pin bowling. For live music, check out the schedules for the White Rabbit and The Hi-Fi. Oh, and poke your head into Square Cat Vinyl.
Just northeast of the Monument Circle, Mass Ave boasts an array of boutique shops, restaurants for any palate, cocktail bars and breweries. Some of our favorites include Bazbeaux Pizza, St. Joseph's Brewery, Kreuger's Tavern, Three Dog Bakery, Silver in the City, Garden Table, Louie's Wine Dive, Ralston's Drafthouse, Yats Cajun Creole, Coatcheck Coffee, the Rathskeller Biergarten, rooftop dining at The Livery, Homespun Goods and Chatterbox Jazz Club. Be sure to look for the murals of famous locals and for Ann, the dancing lady!
We now call this neighborhood home. Founded as one of Indianapolis' first suburbs, its named after the writer Washington Irving, with its winding streets inspired by the rural landscapes of the Romantic era. Irvington is the original location of Butler University and famous for its week-long Halloween celebrations and festival. There is a ton of history in the old homes and buildings, including the Bona Thompson Memorial and the Benton House. Some of our favorite places are Black Acre Brewing and Beer Garden, Jockamo Upper Crust Pizza, The Legend, Coalyard Coffee, Strangebird (tiki bar/cocktails), Steer-In (as seen on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives), Percolate Coffee and Wine Bar, Ellenberger Park, and Irvington Vinyl and Books.
Our favorite restaurant to enjoy any celebratory dinner is Tinker Street. Other great downtown locations include St. Elmo's Steakhouse, Nada, Jack's Donuts, Sun King Brewery, and Easley Winery. Lucas Oil Stadium (home of the NFL Colts), Bankers Life Fieldhouse (home of the NBA Pacers) and Monument Circle (home of the Soldiers and Sailors monument) are also right downtown. Just to the east, you'll find the Holy Cross neighborhood and Dorman Street Pub, Centerpoint Brewing (we recommend the Blood Orange IPA), Beholder, King Dough, Grounded Plant and Floral and the beautiful and historic Woodruff Place neighborhood.
The Meridian-Kessler and Broad Ripple neighborhoods are conveniently situated between Butler's campus and the artsy Broad Ripple Village. Elloree spent five years living in Broad Ripple after graduating from Butler. SoBro is also where Matt and Elloree had their first date at The Aristocrat Pub. Other MK/SoBro/BRip staples include: Cafe Patachou (brunch - you have to get the cinnamon toast), Moe & Johnny’s, Half Liter Beer and BBQ Hall, Twenty Tap, Fat Dan's Chicago Deli, The Red Key Tavern, the Dancing Donut, Triton Taproom, Luna Music, Indy CD & Vinyl, Cake Bake Shop, La Piedad, Broad Ripple Ice Cream Shop, Pots and Pans Pie Company, Public Greens and the Monon Trail.
Elloree's alma mater and home to the world-famous Hinkle Fieldhouse! Check out Butler's beautiful campus and make sure to stop by and see the fieldhouse, which is a U.S. National Landmark. It is usually open to visitors during business hours. Catch a play at Clowes Hall or a musical perfomance at Schrott Center for the Arts. Holcomb Gardens, Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium, and the Holcomb Carillon Tower are all easily accessible by car and worth checking out. Enjoy nearby sweet treats at the Flying Cupcake and Graeter's Ice Cream. Go Dawgs!
Formerly known as the Indianapolis Museum of Art, Newfields is a great place to visit and experience nature and art. Check out the free outdoor area, 1,000 Acres (be sure to let the kids walk all over the Funky Bones exhibit as seen in the Movie 'The Fault in Our Stars'), or enjoy indoor exhibits, Lilly house garden tours, or have a quick bite and drink at the beer garden.
The largest children's museum in the world, The Children's Museum of Indianapolis and the newly opened Sports Legend Experience are a must-see for anyone with kids. The museum focuses on interactive exhibits including the ever popular Dinosphere, carousel and steam locomotive. If you're into sports, the outdoor sports experience is the place to be. Don't miss the tree house or pedal race tracks!
A luxury mall with one of the best food courts around! Some of our favorites stores are Anthropologie, Crate & Barrel, the Apple Store, Lush, The North Face, and West Elm. Landmark Theater is also connected to the mall and is a great place to catch a new release foreign or independent film.
