Traditions

Salwan and his family are from the Northern Iraqi villages of Tel Keppe and Tesqopa. For centuries, these villages have been home to the indigenous Chaldean/Assyrian people who speak the ancient language of Aramaic. To honor this heritage, the first ceremony will be conducted in Aramaic at the Holy Martyrs Chaldean Catholic Church. To honor Elizabeth’s family’s heritage, we will be hosting a second non-denominational ceremony at Cherry Creek Golf Club. Beyond the ceremonies, another tradition you’ll experience is the Zaffa—a vibrant wedding procession filled with music, drumming, and dancing. As the couple makes their way from home to church, and later to the reception, you’ll feel the infectious energy and joy of this custom. It’s the perfect way to celebrate the newlyweds and set the tone for the night’s festivities!
