Our Story

While we first met at UVM our freshman year, it wasn't until the following year that James made his move by scribbling his number on the whiteboard of Elizabeth's door. Some of our favorite memories from that year include: staying up until 4am swapping stories of home, dancing to Bob Dylan on vinyl in James' dorm room and in rainy parking lots, and shredding the local slopes with fellow catamounts. Over the next few years there were several long trips to China, Spain and Alaska. Despite the distance, we held each other in our hearts and minds during those years. Writing letters when the internet wouldn't allow for text or calls, and still writing letters even when it would. We documented our time apart, as well as our feelings of closeness that seemed impossible given the distance. Finally settling into jobs in Boston and Concord NH, we spent our two years after graduation closer together, yet still apart. It wasn't until James finished his Master's degree and Elizabeth decided she'd had enough of her shitty job that we came together for a five-month backpacking trip through South America and Europe. Growing up, Elizabeth's mom had always told Elizabeth that if she thought a guy was the one, she should take an unstructured trip with him to see how they did traveling together. But she probably did not have such a long vacation in mind when sharing this piece of advice with her daughter. Yet she was right. Upon returning from the trip, Elizabeth was more certain than ever that James was her guy. Fast forward to this year and we're enjoying our life together in the North End of Boston, James proposes, Elizabeth says yes, and here we are! After our wedding, we look forward to James graduating with his doctorate in psychology, starting a family, finding a home along the shoreline of New England, and finally having a washer and dryer. None of this history nor future would be possible without the unwavering support of our family and friends (that's you!). We couldn't be luckier to have found one another and to have you all in our lives. Much love, JAW + EAR (soon to be EAW)
