Travel Note
Lima is Peru's bustling capital city. It is known for its agreeable desert climate, soaring seaside cliffs, quaint colonial neighborhoods and most of all, as being the epicenter of the mouth-watering Peruvian cuisine scene! As with any capital city in Latin America, there are a few important things to keep in mind when visiting Lima. Traffic can be particularly bad and harrowing and for this reason it is not recommended to rent a car. However, Safe taxis can be ordered inside the airport at the rental car counter just after baggage claim. They cost $30-$50 to take you to the areas where the hotels will be. Do not get a taxi outside of the airport. Uber works quite well around Miraflores, San Isidro and Barranco. We recommend to not rely on those for further trips for safety reasons. We recommend not using Uber to go to/from the airport. The hotels can get you reliable transportation as well. For those that want to explore and walk around, these are the safest areas to enjoy: Miraflores, Lima Centro (Old Historic Quarter), San Isidro, and Barranco.
Flight
Jorge Chávez is Lima's one and only international airport. For those coming from Los Angeles or New York, Delta or LATAM are the two airlines that fly nonstop. For the rest of our guests, we highly recommend making your connection within the US to avoid having to go through double customs. There are direct flights to Lima from either LAX, EWR, JFK, IAH, MIA, or ATL.
