Question

What are pintxos?

Answer

Pintxos (pronounced "peen-chos") that you will typically see in traditional Basque bars around Barcelona are open-faced appetizers built on a small slice of bread and topped with ingredients like seafood, cured meats, olives, and roasted peppers. To enjoy, grab a plate, select your favorites and keep the toothpicks. At the end of the night, the bartender calculates your bill by counting the number of toothpicks on your plate. Locals often hop from one tavern to another, enjoying a drink and one or two pintxos at each stop.
