Travel Note
While you are here, enjoy the history! Yorktown is a National Landmark where American and French forces won the last battle of the American Revolution. The port of Yorktown was the site of the final battle of the American Revolution where on October 19, 1781, Lord Cornwallis surrendered his British Army to the combined American-French forces under Generals Washington and Rochambeau. After America was founded, Yorktown played an important role in the Civil War, acting as a major port for supplying northern and southern communities based on who controlled it. Today, Yorktown is also part of an important region known as the "Historic Triangle" (Yorktown, Jamestown, and Williamsburg).
