Wedding Party

Shane Ung

Groom

Shane loves Emily. He used this photo on his dating profile and Emily was hooked. He enjoys traveling, playing board games and cooking (especially to feed Emily)

Emily Ekdom

Bride

Emily loves Shane. She grew up in Northern Michigan and loves being outside for adventures. She teaches art classes but also loves reading, playing board games and traveling (especially traveling with Shane!)

Cynthia Ekdom

Maid of Honor

Cynthia is the younger sister of the bride! Her birthday is May 21st, four days before Emily's, so they celebrated many a birthday together as well as growing up side by side. Emily is honored to have Cynthia be with her at this important milestone 💜

Kalen Beebe

Bridesmaid

Kalen was in Chamber Choir with Emily during high school. They attended Michigan State University together and were roommates for 2 years. She famously started the Nick Cage war that still remains today. Emily stood for Kalen during her wedding in 2017. Kalen lived in Texas for years but Emily is thrilled that she moved back to Michigan February of this year so they can spend more time together!

Breyer Thenn

Bridesmaid

In 7th grade, Breyer invited Emily on a camping trip to the UP. She has been one of Emily's closest friends ever since. They were roommates in college for 3 years, and she was a fierce competitor in the Nick Cage battles. Emily did get the last word when she stood for Breyer's wedding celebration and decorated for the event. They now live within 20 minutes of each other and enjoy catching up over Crepes and Sushi.

Bethanie Wojey

Bridesmaid

Friends since middle school, Bethanie and Emily were in girl scouts together. While girl scouts ended in grade school, they remained adventure buddies as they got older. Through college and beyond they enjoy going on girl's trips including the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Toronto, Canada! Camping trips remain a favorite pastime for them both.

Bryan Schroeder

Best Man

Bryan and Shane became roommates and best friends at MSU over their shared love of board games, Spagnuolo's milkshakes, and Mass Effect 3. Even though they live on opposite sides of the country, they still game together and Shane often visits the Schroeder family - he researched chemistry as an intern with Bryan's dad!

Lance Jongekrijg

Groomsman

Lance and Shane have been butting heads since middle school over thousands of games of Catan and Halo. He and his wife, Amber, have been close friends for decades. Shane actually met Amber first, in elementary school - a fact they never let Lance forget!

John McCleery

Groomsman

Jon's love of board games and traveling have fueled his friendship with Shane since high school. He visited Jon in Turkey after college for one of his first solo-trips. Despite losing his luggage in Istanbul and suffering dehydration at the Pamukkale Travertenleri, the adventure opened Shane's eyes to the world of travel.

Josh Nuiver

Groomsman

Josh and Shane have been friends since middle school - back when they quested through the World of Warcraft together as guild mates. After college, they moved in together until Josh wed his wife and moved to Grand Rapids. For years Shane visited and third wheeled Josh and Julia every Sunday from noon till night!

Hunter and Oliver Rozeboom

Ring Bearer

Hunter and Oliver are Shane's adorable nephews! The couple lives right down the road from them so they frequently play board games and hang out with the two brothers.

Diane VanAntwerp

Officiant

Diane is the Bride's aunt and namesake! Apparently they looked exactly the same when they were young, as Emily's mother calls her Diane more often than not. They love crafting together, shopping together, and Emily became a teacher because she wanted to follow in her aunt's footsteps. She wants to recreate this photo with her Aunt from her wedding.

Dale Ekdom

Father of the Bride

Emily's dad loves to read, and build things using his two hands. He inspired Emily's love of teddy bears, reading, and creating. To say she's a bit of a daddies girl is an understatement.

Theresa Ekdom

Mother of the Bride

Emily's mom makes beautiful ornaments and other items using woodworking, intarsia, and painting. She says she's not artistic, but everyone knows she is where Emily got her love, appreciation, and skill for all things art.

Janny Yam

Mother of the Groom

Alison Mulder

Mistress of Ceremony

Mutual friends of both Shane and Emily, Alison is an interior designer with attention to detail. She grew up with Shane but quickly became friends with Emily with their shared love of art. They often have craft nights on Wednesdays which is where Emily learned to crochet from Alison!

Nikki Hildenbrand/Hannah Lampe

Musicians

Childhood friends of Shane's, they will be playing the violin and cello, respectively, during the wedding ceremony!
