Flashback to 14 years ago: Rachel was nervously entering grade 9 with braces meanwhile Kyle was finishing up his "victory lap" at Frances Kelsey. Are you kidding?! This obviously NOT where they met. Flashback to 7.5 years ago: Rachel was nerding it up as a science camp instructor with Science Venture at UVic and Kyle was nerding it up as a student in engineering at UVic. This is also NOT where their paths crossed, surprisingly. Enter Jackie Wong: the great mutual friend. Co-instructor at Science Venture and engineering student. Jackie was having 19th birthday celebrations which involved Rachel as the DD picking Jackie up from her basement suite. THAT is where Kyle and Rachel first met. Rachel was intrigued and Kyle was immediately enamoured. She knew he was something special when he walked her car at the night's end. Flash forward a year from that point: Kyle was living with Jackie and two other engineers at the "beach house" in Cadboro Bay. Meanwhile, Rachel was a summer student at the local hospital and spending all spare time with Jackie. Rachel found out that Kyle had a crush on her and proceeded to get his number from Jackie to secretly text him. Opening line: "hey there cuteness". He had no idea who it was and Jackie was rolling around laughing as she gave Rachel the play-by-play. Eventually (1 week later) he figured out who it was and Rachel knew it but they kept up the charade until a bet was placed. She bet him that she (the anonymous texter) was a man and he bet that she was a cute girl. Loser had to buy the other ice cream at Beacon Hill Park. Needless to say: she bought the ice cream. Later on that summer on July 14th 2012, Rachel found herself at a Moss wedding but didn't know if they were officially dating. That is until Kyle said: "Uncle Bob, I would like to introduce you to my girlfirend, Rachel." And THAT is when they started dating and when Rachel met pretty much the entirety of his family. Silly. Convoluted. Us. That is our story.
