We live just over an hour from Grand Teton National Park. Depending on which airport you choose to fly in to, you are a mere minutes from an entrance to this majestic experience (see the travel tab for airport specifics). Take a ferry ride across Jenny Lake, check out the Tetons at sunrise or sunset, and enjoy some delicious Italian food and a drink on the rooftop deck at Dornan's (near the South entrance of the park). This is definitely something you don't want to miss!
The Mesa Falls Scenic Byway takes you to two of the last undisturbed waterfalls in the West. Upper and Lower Mesa Falls are the last major falls in Idaho that have not been used for irrigation or hydroelectric projects. They offer spectacular views in a beautiful forest sertting. The upper waterfall has been developed with paths and viewing areas and is easily accessible to all. Location: The southern end is in Ashton at Idaho 47. Travel northeast 12.4 miles to the old Bear Gulch Ski Area site and then northwest along Forest Service Route 294 to the northern end at U.S. 20.
Idaho is famous for its blue-ribbon trout fishing streams, and Harriman State Park is basically fishing mecca. The park is located right on the Henry's Fork, so you can try your hand at fly fishing and enjoy the beautiful scenery. There are multiple outfitters in Island Park, so you can have your pick on a guide or renting gear.
Jackson is a great place to check out while you are in this neck of the woods. It’s not super close to the venue, but it’s very close to Grand Teton National Park and there is plenty to do there. Check out the rodeo on a Friday or Saturday night, get old timey photos taken, or take the tram at Teton Village to the top of the mountain for waffles - there’s something for everyone!
