Things To Do

A Weekend in Whitefish If you’re extending your stay (highly encouraged!), Whitefish and the surrounding area offer no shortage of beautiful views, great food, and outdoor adventures. Below are a few local favorites.

Downtown Whitefish

A charming, walkable area filled with local shops, coffee spots, and restaurants — perfect for a relaxed afternoon or casual evening out. Grouse Mountain Lodge offers a complimentary shuttle to downtown for your convenience.

Whitefish Lake

Whitefish Lake is a local favorite and a beautiful place to enjoy Montana’s natural scenery. In addition to City Beach, the lake offers opportunities for fishing, boating, and peaceful lakeside walks. October is a lovely time to take in the crisp mountain air, enjoy the views, or spend a quiet afternoon by the water.

City Beach

Located on Whitefish Lake, City Beach is a great spot for a scenic stroll, photos, and soaking in mountain and lake views. Even in October, it’s a lovely place to enjoy the fresh air and fall colors.

Whitefish Lake Golf Course

Located just steps from Grouse Mountain Lodge, Whitefish Lake Golf Course is a beautiful 36-hole course set against mountain views and forested fairways. Whether you’re an avid golfer or simply looking for a scenic way to spend a morning, it’s a great on-site option that doesn’t require travel. Tee times can be booked in advance, and the setting alone makes it worth a visit.

Whitefish Trail System

The Whitefish Trail System is a network of well-maintained trails that wind through forests, along ridgelines, and around lakes throughout the area. With options ranging from short, easy walks to longer hikes, it’s perfect for getting outside and enjoying the fall scenery. Many trailheads are easily accessible from town and near the lodge.

Glacier National Park

About a 45-minute drive to West Glacier and absolutely worth the trip if you have the time. October offers stunning fall colors, fewer crowds, and some of the most beautiful scenery in the country.

Loula’s Café

Famous for comfort food and legendary homemade pies. A must-stop for breakfast or lunch—and worth saving room for dessert.

Great Northern Bar & Grill

A fun, lively spot right downtown with burgers, drinks, and a classic Montana vibe. Great for late-night bites or grabbing a drink.

Bonsai Brewing Project

A relaxed brewery with excellent beer and an outdoor patio. Ideal for an afternoon drink or casual evening hang.
