Morehead Planetarium and Science Center

Morehead Planetarium and Science Center is located on the campus of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. First opened in 1949, the planetarium was used to train Gemini and Apollo program astronauts in celestial navigation. Until the late 1990s, it contained one of the largest working Copernican orreries in the world.

Located less than a mile from the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill campus in downtown Carrboro, the Cat’s Cradle has been the Triangle’s premier live music venue for over 50 years. Having hosted bands as diverse as Nirvana, Public Enemy, John Mayer, Joan Baez, and Iggy Pop, the Cat’s Cradle has become a must-stop venue for premier music acts over the past several decades. With a capacity of 750 people, the Cat’s Cradle allows concert-goers a chance to see established and up-and-coming bands alike in an intimate setting.

Founded in 1966, the Duke Lemur Center is an 85-acre sanctuary for rare and endangered strepsirrhine primates, and is a world leader in the study, care, and protection of lemurs. With more than 200 animals across 14 species, the DLC houses the world’s largest and most diverse population of lemurs outside their native Madagascar. The center is open to the public through tours, for which visitors must make an appointment.

Both park entrances offer picnic shelters, and Crabtree Creek offers camping areas.

The North Carolina State Fair will be running from Thursday Oct. 12 to Sunday Oct. 22 this year! It consists of carnival rides, agricultural exhibitions and competitions, food, music, demonstrations, and garden and craft displays, and is something that Dylan and I try to go to every year! The NC State Fair is one of the largest and oldest state fairs in the United States, running since 1853.

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences

The state’s museum devoted to science and nature, the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences in central Raleigh is the largest institution of its kind in the Southeastern United States. The museum includes four floors of exhibits in its Nature Exploration Center and Nature Research Center—some including live animals.
