The Proposal

Question

How it became official

Answer

As most of you know, Emily and Dustin's marriage story began in a unique way, as they didn't follow the traditional path to their engagement. They had already booked their wedding venue and told loved ones about the plans before Emily had even started looking at wedding rings! After what seemed like forever, she found the perfect ring - a unique design from a jeweler in Israel. As expected, it took a while for the ring to be made and shipped, so Emily did her best to remain patient. Dustin secretively had another ring waiting for the perfect moment to arise to propose to her. The jeweler kept them both updated on the progress of the ring, and Dustin knew that Emily would not be expecting a proposal since the ring was not in his possession yet (so she thought). The weekend of March 5th, a massive snowstorm hit Utah, leaving behind two feet of fresh snow. Emily and Dustin, both avid skiers, knew they had to hit the slopes and experience the legendary snow. They headed to Solitude Resort for the day with Dustin's cousin Eric. While Eric learned to ski for first time they enjoyed an epic powder day together. As the day was winding down, Dustin suggested that they do one last run from the top of the Summit lift. Emily eagerly agreed, and led them off the beaten path to a cool spot to drop in. Tromping through knee deep snow Dustin eventually caught up, and realized this was the moment. Instead of skiing down, Dustin bent down on one knee and began to profess his love for her. He spoke from his heart, telling her all the things he loves about their life, one being how they share a piece of fruit together every morning and that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her. He then pulled out an orange from his jacket, with the ring delicately placed in a slit in the peel. Emily, overjoyed and filled with emotion, said yes immediately, and the couple stood there on the cliff, surrounded by snowflakes and trees, as fiancés.
