We look forward to celebrating with you!
The year was 2014. Lucas was wearing a basketball jersey, and Alyssa donned galaxy leggings. Lucas was just hired as the resident adviser of Springfield, the all male house on the first floor of Payne Hall (RIP). Alyssa lived in Playground, the all female house that made up the other half of Payne's first floor. After Lucas had moved in, Alyssa and her roommate decided to go meet him, with the intent of setting Lucas up with their RA. About a year later, Lucas was still the RA of Springfield and Alyssa had secured an RA job in West Hall, a residence hall across campus. After a late-night texting mishap, it was revealed that Lucas and Alyssa had a mutual admiration for each other. A few days later, they met up for a chilly walk (it was March in the U.P., after all), talked about it and decided to give the relationship the ol' college try.
The pair had been laughing for weeks about how bad the CATS movie/musical was going to be, but they agreed that they couldn't miss it - so Lucas and Alyssa decided to spend New Year's Day at the movie theater. They paid for their popcorn and tickets, and were ushered into the smallest theater, which Alyssa thought was odd, since it was only about two weeks after the film had debuted. Lucas, engagement ring in his pocket, thought that if they were alone in the small theater that he would propose before or during the movie. As other filmgoers sauntered into the theater, Lucas had to quickly change his plan - he thought he would propose after the movie instead. Despite both of them turning to each other at different points of the movie and saying "we could leave now and I'd be okay," they stuck it out and made it to the final number. There were several main thoughts at the forefront of their brains - why did we spend money to see that nightmare? Could we ever get back the two hours we just spent watching said nightmare? And, above all, what is a jellicle cat? Due to his frustration towards the film, Lucas couldn't find a way to say "Well, that sucked, but you know what doesn't suck? Getting married," like he originally planned. Later that night, when they were just hanging out at home, Lucas asked Alyssa if she wanted to get married - she didn't even have to really say "Yes," because he already knew the answer. He dashed to retrieve the ring from his jacket pocket and placed it on Alyssa's finger.
The stone on Alyssa's engagement ring is in the shape of a snowflake, to match the snowflake tattoo behind her left ear.
