How to obtain a Passport

Apply Early: Passport processing can take 6-8 weeks, so apply well in advance. Find a Passport Acceptance Facility: Locate a nearby post office, library, or other authorized location to submit your application. Required Documents: Proof of U.S. citizenship (birth certificate, previous passport, etc.) Valid ID (driver’s license or government-issued ID) Passport-sized photos (must meet specific requirements) Complete the Application: Use Form DS-11 for first-time applicants. Fill it out online or by hand, but do not sign it until instructed by an acceptance agent. Submit in Person: First-time applicants and minors must apply in person at a passport acceptance facility. Pay Fees: Fees vary depending on the type of passport and processing speed. Check the current fee schedule on the U.S. State Department website. Expedited Processing: If you're in a rush, you can request expedited processing for an additional fee. This typically takes 2-3 weeks. Track Your Application: You can track your passport status online once submitted. If you already have your passport please double check the expiration date. If your passport expires within 6 months of travel, you will need to renew your passport to avoid delays and additional issues. Renewals: To renew an existing passport, use Form DS-82 and follow the renewal instructions.
