How we met

3.22.14

Sarah and Brett met through a Greek bible study called Doulos in the Fall of 2013, but Brett didn’t make an impression until January when they both noticed each other at a retreat. S: “I was sitting at the fire, and he came and sat next to me. We started talking and before we knew it a couple of hours had gone by. I noticed him a lot more after the retreat. I would even go to the Doulos meetings early, so I could talk to him before it started." About a month later, it came time for Brett to find a date for formal. When prompted by a friend, he said he would ideally take Sarah but didn't think she would go. Suspiciously, a few days later Brett received a text from a mutual friend of theirs in Tri-delt, asking if he would like to take a Tri-delt on Pi Kapp formal and was recommended to ask Sarah. B: “I should have known it had all been carefully orchestrated behind our backs, but I was unaware." Brett asked Sarah to be his formal date to New Orleans, and she accepted. They had a great time and since have taken a trip to revisit their first date spot in New Orleans every year since.

The Proposal

4.7.18

B: “One of our first dates was eating Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Chocolate-Chip Ice Cream on the May Oak stump in Lewis Park in downtown Tallahassee. We have enjoyed going back ever since, and I knew that it would be where I proposed. I planned a busy day for us to make her think nothing out of the ordinary was going on. We went to several of our favorite places in Tallahassee, grabbing lunch at Backwoods Crossing, visiting the Tallahassee Nursery so Sarah could get a new plant, having coffee at Lucky Goat, and finally heading over to the stump for ice cream. It was raining hard all day, and just as we got to the Park, it began to let up. I pulled the ice cream container out of the cooler, which I had already emptied out and replaced the ice cream with a letter. I read her the letter and then proposed in front of our stump. It was a great moment, which was later celebrated by a surprise party back at Sarah's house with some of our closest friends.”
