We met in today's traditional way...online dating. The first time we met in person was at Andina, a restaurant in downtown Portland. We had a few drinks, and chatted the night away. Things were going so well, we took a walk down the street to Powell's Bookstore. On our 3rd date, Scott took Drew rockclimbing near Mt. Hood. When they got to the top of the climb, Scott kissed Drew for the 1st time.
Drew invited Scott to come with her to visit the Squires family, that live out at Washington Family Ranch. It had been several years since Drew had visited the Ranch. Scott had been there several times before, so he was excited to go visit as well. They got to Lisa's house late on Friday night and she asked what they wanted to do during the weekend. Drew mentioned that she wanted to go on a small hike, and just hang out with Lisa's and her family. Lisa encouraged Drew to get up in the morning and take Scott on a small hike that overlooks the property. Hiking out at Washington Family Ranch doesn't have any trail heads or designated trails, you just blaze your own trail. So Drew pointed out one of her favorite hikes and peak to Scott, and said, "That's where I would like to go. It's a short hike but steep." Scott was very nonchalant, was up to try it, and told Drew to lead the way. When they got to the final point, sweaty and out of breath, Drew saw a wooden box sitting there. Scott immediately put his camera bag down, opened up the box, and there was a little black box in it. Drew immediately started crying. Scott said, "I knew how much this place means to you and made a big impact on your life, and I want to propose a new life with you." Drew said 'yes' and Scott placed the ring on her finger. And then Scott immediately set up his tripod to take some photos. So what Drew didn't know - The whole weekend was planned out 2 months prior between Scott and Lisa. So even though Drew thought she planned just a casual visit to the Ranch to see Lisa and her family, Scott was the puppet master behind the curtain. Scott dropped the wooden box off a month in advance, and Lisa was able to have a neighbor hike up the peak at 6am to drop off the box and ring before Scott and Drew went on the hike.
