Jesse's proposal
Like many modern couples, we met through a dating app. Kelly had only been on it for a week; Jesse was about to give up and delete his. When he spontaneously asked her out and she spontaneously said yes, each experienced a moment of panic. Kelly in particular was nervous about explaining her deafness on a first date. Luckily Jesse had done some pre-date Googling and discovered an article titled "What Not to Say to a Deaf Person"... written by Kelly herself. Jesse's research paid off, as they spent hours talking and laughing and bonding over pop culture references. The way Jesse tells it: "I kissed her with the fire of a thousand suns and she immediately fell in love with me." To be taken with a grain of salt.
Jesse knew he needed to come up with a unique proposal that Kelly wouldn't be able to turn down. One day they were watching an episode of "Better Things," in which the characters performed a choreographed dance as a gift for someone. After the episode was over, Kelly turned to Jesse and said, "A choreographed dance is the greatest gift you could ever give someone." He made a note. Fast forward to June 2019: Jesse got Kelly into the car under false pretenses, blindfolded her, and completely surprised her with—well, you can see for yourself in the video above.
