Both JFK and LaGuardia (LGA) are great airport options for staying in Downtown Brooklyn—each offers convenient access to the Hampton Inn Brooklyn/Downtown and the Sheraton Brooklyn New York Hotel. The easiest way to get to the hotels from either airport is typically taxi or rideshare, especially with luggage.
Travel Note
Taxi (Yellow Cab): After baggage claim, follow signs for the official Taxi Stand/taxi line (don’t accept ride offers inside the terminal). For Downtown Brooklyn, LaGuardia lists ~$28–$50 (plus any tolls + tip), and JFK lists ~$73–$78 for Downtown Brooklyn (plus any tolls + tip). Rideshare (Uber/Lyft): Request in the app and follow signs to the airport’s designated “Ride App Pick Up” area—at JFK this can involve a specific lot or relocation (for example, Terminal 4 may direct you to a lot with a free shuttle during certain hours). Typical Uber averages to Downtown Brooklyn are about $80 from JFK and $61 from LGA, but pricing varies with traffic and surge.
Train
Amtrak is another great option for getting to New York City, arriving at Moynihan Train Hall (Penn Station). If you’re considering this route, we recommend booking early—Amtrak notes that reserving sooner is more likely to get you the best fares, and prices are often higher during peak travel periods. From Moynihan Train Hall/Penn Station to our Downtown Brooklyn hotels, the simplest route is usually the subway: take the A or C train from 34 St–Penn Station to Jay St–MetroTech, then it’s a short walk to both hotels. If you prefer taxi or a rideshare app (Uber/Lyft), you can also pick up right outside Moynihan Train Hall—just enter your hotel name/address in the app or tell the driver “Downtown Brooklyn.”
Travel Note
Brooklyn is wonderfully walkable, but for our formal events we want everyone comfortable—so we recommend taking a taxi or Uber/Lyft. Black Forest Brooklyn - Fort Greene (733 Fulton Street) is about a 10–15 minute walk, or 3–8 minutes by Uber/Lyft (depending on lights/traffic). The River Café (1 Water St) is about 22–30 minutes walking, or 10–20 minutes by Uber/Lyft, especially if it’s a busy traffic time near the bridges. If you arrive by car, please insist your driver take you past the cobblestones directly to the restaurant's front door and roundabout.
