Question

What is "black tie"?

Answer

Do you really need a tux/gown? Yes. In fact, our venue requires this. Thank you in advance for sticking to the dress code! Men: A dark tuxedo (satin jacket lapels and matching pants with a stripe down the trouser leg); or a dinner jacket tuxedo. "TheBlackTux" is our pick for affordable, quality rentals - please also check out the models linked as a style guide: https://theblacktux.com/collections/tuxedo-rentals Women: Floor-length gowns are preferred; a very formal tea-length dress or a polished, full-length jumpsuit in luxe fabric is also welcome. Since this is a spring wedding, color is encouraged—think bright, pastel, or floral tones with elegant shoes and accessories. Please reach out to the bride and groom with any questions!

Question

What is German "Trachten"?

Answer

This means, simply, traditional dress of the alpine regions of Bavaria, Germany and Austria (think Oktoberfest and "Sound of Music"). We are asking folks to embrace this tradition to honor Don's maternal family. Do you really need to wear lederhosen or a dirndl for this party? No. But, if you have it, you are encouraged to wear it! If not, please dress in cocktail attire. Men: Lederhosen (leather shorts) and suspenders with a simple white or checkered shirt is standard. You can complement with a vest, traditional jacket or sweater, hat or other hunting/alpine accessories. Women: Dirndl (dresses) are traditionally worn with the coordinating apron and white blouse. According to tradition, a German dirndl bow tied on the right means that you are taken, meaning in a serious relationship or married. Tied on the left means that you are single and ready to mingle! Tied in the center is most commonly seen on little kids. If you're interested in buying Trachten, you can order direct from the "Trachtenhans" Etsy Shop (https://www.etsy.com/shop/Trachtenhans?ref=shop-header-name&listing_id=1706075621&from_page=listing) or another German or import website such as, https://dirndl.com.
