Nick and Katie first met in Chico, California in 2012. After becoming friends in Chico, Nick eventually moved to Sacramento and Katie to San Francisco but the two would often run into each other at mutual friend gatherings. As the years went by and Nick and Katie became closer friends, chemistry bubbled and not-so-subtle sparks flew. Both were unsure if they should pursue their feelings for another, so they decided to embark on separate adventures to explore the world and reflect on their growing feelings. Katie spent a month exploring the lush jungles of Thailand while Nick traversed Zion and Grand Canyon National Parks. Although Nick and Katie set off on two very different adventures, they both couldn’t get each other out of their minds and were eager to see each other again. Their first real date was November 4th, 2017. Nick came to San Francisco for the weekend where the two visited the Museum of Modern Art and capped it off with a perfect afternoon on Kirby Cove. That weekend solidified the foundation of their future together and a few months later Nick left Sacramento to give their love a chance in the city by the bay. They eventually moved into their first home, a quaint but beautiful apartment in North Beach. They enjoyed exploring the city, spending holidays and vacations with each other’s families, attending music festivals, and taking a trip to Kaui. Their proposal was upended by a global pandemic and a relentless wildfire season. Nick had planned to propose by recreating their first date in San Francisco, but the museum was closed and the sky was filled with smoke. Since they couldn’t leave the apartment to relive their first date, Nick recreated their first date in their apartment. With the walls of their apartment covered with printed pictures of museum art and Kirby Cove, Nick got down on one knee and asked the love of his life and best friend to marry him (Spoiler: she said yes).
