Montrose Airport (MTJ)

For most travelers, the most straight-forward option is to fly directly into Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ). All major airlines except for Delta fly here. Montrose has a modest public bus system (All Points Transit) that serves the airport and the main town area. Our wedding venue, Ridgway State Park, is not accessible via public transit. Plan to carpool with someone who has a vehicle, or take advantage of one of the options to rent a car in Montrose.

Denver Airport (DEN)

For those seeking more adventure, it is possible to fly into Denver (DEN) and drive to Montrose. In good weather, it is a six-hour drive (each way) with excellent mountain scenery. Travelers should be prepared for variable road conditions and possible traffic delays, especially over mountain passes and in the Eisenhower Tunnel.

Heads up! This is Colorado!

The air is thin up here! Montrose sits at nearly 6,000' above sea level, while our wedding venue (Ridgway State Park) is at nearly 7,000'. Visitors from sea level will notice that exertion - even climbing a flight of stairs - is significantly more laborious here. While the altitude can cause some minor discomfort (in the form of more restless sleep or a low-grade headache), it does not typically pose any danger of serious medical issues. Take your time, pace yourself, and rest as needed. Keep in mind, too, that western Colorado is a very arid place. The humidity is low. The combination of low humidity and high altitude means that you will need to drink *significantly* more water than you do at home. Keeping properly hydrated - or perhaps a tad over-hydrated - will help you minimize those aforementioned low-grade headaches. Alcohol consumption greatly exacerbates the effects of a high-and-dry climate. Alcohol may hit harder - and come with more side effects - than it does at sea level. Extra diligence is advised.
