Question

I have a dietary restriction - what now?

Answer

We've done our best to accommodate the different tastes and restrictions of our dear friends and family. With buffet-style dining, feel free to load up on what you can eat, and skip what you can't. We also won't be offended in the slightest if you bring some of your own food to supplement the catered food. Remember, relaxed picnic vibes :)

Question

Ridgway State Park is a big place. Where do I go?

Answer

There are three entrances to Ridgway State Park, each signed along US 550. You're looking for the Pa-Co-Chu-Puk entrance - the northernmost of the three. At the fee booth, ask the attendant for directions to the DeVries-Seitz wedding.

Question

Is there an entrance fee for the state park?

Answer

Yes. A day pass costs $10 per car. This gives you in-and-out privileges and access to the entire park. The park unfortunately does *not* allow us to pick up the tab for everyone. Carpooling is encouraged when practical. The park accepts cash and card.

Question

Ok but seriously, will I be underdressed if I'm not wearing a tie?

Answer

Nope. We mean it - we want you to be here, and to be comfortable in the unpredictable mountain weather. Bring layers so you don't freeze once the sun dips below the cliffs to the west.

Question

Do you have a hotel block booked?

Answer

No. We know of several folks getting AirBnB, a few folks camping at the State Park itself, and others getting various hotels around town. As far as towns go, Montrose (rather than Ridgway) is definitely the best place to stay. Ridgway is a small mountain town with few services, while Montrose has everything you need short of a Chik-Fil-A.

Question

Ridgway State Park has a reservoir. What watersports are available?

Answer

Our venue is below the dam, on a flowing section of the Uncompaghre River. Anglers can fish either the river immediately adjacent to our venue, or a couple of stocked fish ponds nearby. You must have a valid Colorado fishing license in order to fish!

Question

What about my kids?

Answer

This is an outdoor event. There is a playground immediately adjacent to our picnic pavillion. In addition, we'll have kid-friendly games like cornhole and Giant Connect Four. There's also plenty of space to run around, collect bugs, and blow bubbles.

Question

Ugh, I'd love to come, but I just can't make it.

Answer

Totally fine! This is an invitation, not an obligation or a guilt trip. Listen, we know you didn't have a year's heads-up on this. We also realize that many of you don't live here in western Colorado. Perfectly valid reasons not to come include, but are not limited to: - I'm on a long-distance hike and I'm gonna be in the middle of the woods. - Flights are just too pricey, especially on semi-short notice - I don't like group events! - I can't get the time off of work - I'm caring for kids/elders and can't get away - [Insert your own reason here] You won't offend us if you can't make it. On the contrary, we do ask that you RSVP (yes or no) by August 15 so we can plan appropriately for food with our caterer. Mmmmm... delicious delicious BBQ!
