One of the best scenic drives in the whole country starts in nearby Ouray! This road is curvy with dropoffs, so not for the timid driver. The views are simply unbeatable though! Head up to Red Mountain Pass to see the changing aspen leaves, stop in Ironton to walk through an old mining town, and if you're ambitious, go all the way to Little Molas Lake (where Steph and Kevin first met in person)!
The Black Canyon of the Gunnison is our local, 'after-work' National Park. The South Rim (home to the Visitors Center, campground, and family-friendly short walks to stunning overlooks) is only about 20 minutes from Montrose. Unfortunately, the disastrous South Rim Fire of 2025 burned about 85% of the park, including those overlooks and the campground. Parts of the park will remain closed for the remainder of 2025. If you choose to visit the park, check their website beforehand for updated closure information.
Fun spot for a round of disc golf (bring your own discs). This was Steph and Kevin's first date spot!
Great spot for fusion tacos! Make sure to get an order of sketchy tots.
Grab a bagel sandwich for breakfast or lunch! Steph worked here during her winter off-seasons from Seeds Wilderness Therapy.
The public hot springs in Ouray are open year-round, and offer a variety of pools and temperatures. Enjoy some of the famous geothermal soaking that southwest Colorado is famous for!
