Downtown Mount Shasta is a fun mix of small-town charm and quirky spiritual vibes. For food, Pipeline has great beer, YAKS nails breakfast sandwiches, Bistro 107 is always solid, Sparky’s Landing has wood-fired pizza, and Andaman is our go-to for Thai (on Mountain time, of course). For gear, The 5th Season has ski and trail essentials, and Deadwood Supply Co. is a bike shop by day, taproom and music venue by night. Small but full of character, downtown always has something interesting to check out!
Castle Crags Dome – A Bucket List Hike Castle Crags’ granite peaks are stunning, and the steep Castle Dome trail rewards hikers with epic Mount Shasta views—bring good boots and water! Gateway Trailhead – Hikes for Everyone This trailhead offers hikes for all levels, including the easy, wheelchair-accessible lollipop loop. It’s our go-to for a quick walk, but longer trails are available if you’re up for more!
Heart Lake Hike – A Local Favorite This moderately challenging 2.2-mile round-trip hike starts at Castle Lake and ascends about 600 feet to Heart Lake, offering stunning views of Mount Shasta. The trail isn’t well-marked; using AllTrails for navigation is recommended. For personalized guidance, consider consulting local attendees at the wedding.
Pro Tip: After landing in Medford, drive 20 minutes south to Ashland—where Devin attended Southern Oregon University—for a meal and stroll before the 1.5-hour drive to Mount Shasta. If you have more time, catch a performance at the renowned Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Parking near Lithia Park provides easy access to downtown shops and restaurants.
