If you have the time in your trip, seeing Dry Tortugas National Park is our #1 recommendation. The park is located 70 miles from Key West and is reached either by the Yankee Freedom ferry or seaplane. See website below for more information. The ferry will take you on an all day trip to the island where you will be able to snorkle, tour Fort Jefferson, or sightsee birds and wildlife. It is truly a breathtaking sight to see and perhaps the prettiest place either of us have ever been.
The two best beaches in Key West are Smathers Beach and Higgs Beach. Both are located on the Northeast side of the island but can easily be reached by Uber, taxi, or bicycle. Fort Zachary Taylor (wedding location) also has a beach area and offers snorkeling equipment rental (beach is a bit rocky due to the coral that washes ashore so we would recommend wearing water shoes at this beach).
Some of the most popular attractions in Key West include: - The Ernest Hemingway Home (907 Whitehead Street) - Harry S. Truman Little White House (111 Front Street) - Fort Zachary Taylor State Park: Location of the wedding but also a popular attraction during the day for snorkeling and beach activities - Key West Aquarium - Mel Fisher's Maritime Museum - Fury activities/Tours: Sunset sail, dolphin watch, snorkeling adventures, parasailing, kayaking, etc. - Conch train tour: Learn about the history of Key West and see some of the islands top attractions - Haunted history tour
- Sunset Celebration: If you've never seen a Key West sunset, you're in for a real treat. A sunset celebration occurs every night at sunset near Mallory Square. Watch as the sun sets of the Gulf of Mexico - Take photos at Southernmost Point Buoy, the 0 mile marker, or the Cuban Coffee queen's Key West Postcard mural - Mallory square: Various vendors and performers can be seen at Mallory Square - Key West cemetery: Key West has a very interesting cemetery that is definitely worth checking out! - West Martello Tower Gardens - Explore Duval Street
